HCC Settles With Ousted Chancellor For $850,000

Rusty Hardin and firm lawyer Jennifer Brevorka represented former Houston Community College chancellor and general counsel Renee Byas and successfully negotiated an $850,000 payout for her, including attorneys fees. Ms. Byas worked to update policies at the community college  but was dismissed and then taken to court by the board. This favorable settlement includes a letter of recommendation for Ms. Byas.

“So they settled and she’s able to move on now without the smirch on her reputation,” Mr. Hardin told a reporter from the Houston NPR-affiliated radio station KUHF.

“She really put in a good amount of time serving HCC and I think in the end she’s satisfied with the settlement because it puts her in a position where she can serve the public again,” said Ms. Brevorka.
